Clarissa DeLeon Awarded NSF Graduate Research Fellowship
Congratulations to Wyant College Ph.D. student, Clarissa DeLeon, who was recently awarded a 2022 National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship (GRFP) to support her project “Studying Wildfire Smoke with Acrobatic Multi-Angle Ultraviolet Polarimetry.”
NSF shared their support of Clarissa in the award letter, stating, "Your selection as an NSF Graduate Research Fellow is a highly significant national accomplishment and places you amongst an elite group of fellows who have gone on to distinguished careers in STEM or STEM education. We wish you similar success in your graduate studies and continued excellent progress towards your own career aspirations."
Clarissa is advised by Meredith Kupinski, and her research project includes NASA collaborators: Reed Espinosa, Michael Geray and Olga Kalashnikova.
Concerning her award, Clarissa states, “Big science cannot be done alone. I am grateful that my undergraduate research advisor Dr. Joe Shaw taught me this lesson early on. Combating wildfires and climate change are huge scientific endeavors. This award allows me to be part of a team making important scientific contributions. Thank you, NSF!”
