The Optics Ambassador Program at the Wyant College of Optical Sciences is a volunteer program of exceptional student leaders who are passionate about optics, represent the college at recruitment and special events, and serve as official liaisons between the college and prospective students, guests, and the community.
What is an Optics Ambassador?
Optics Ambassadors serve as volunteer representatives of the Wyant College of Optical Sciences. Optics Ambassadors are are positive, enthusiastic, outgoing, and well-informed students that take an active role in recruitment events and informational sessions for prospective students, as well as hosts for special guests.
Optics Ambassadors shine at various events such as college fairs at high schools, campus visit days, information and Q&A sessions, and more. They play a crucial role in connecting with prospective students and their families assisting them in making well-informed decisions.
The Optics Ambassadors Program consists of two teams: Graduate Team and Undergraduate Team. The Graduate Team provides Q&A sessions to enlighten prospective Masters and PhD candidates and are essential in assisting with Graduate Recruitment Weekend and Graduate Orientation. The Undergraduate Team introduces Optical Sciences and Engineering as an academic path to high school students and their families and are essential in marketing the major through ENGR 102 events.

As an Optics Ambassador, you will...
- Join a team of peers dedicated to representing the Wyant College of Optical Sciences and sharing your knowledge about optics and the Wyant College with prospective students, guests, and community members
- Lead building & lab tours for prospective students, donors, and community members
- Attend and support University of Arizona, Wyant College of Optical Sciences, and College of Engineering events, including:
- New Grad Student Orientation
- Welcome Back Events
- Recruitment Events
- Industrial Affiliates Corporate Showcase
- National & Local Conference Expos
- Winter School
- Social Events, and more!

- Strengthen your communication and leadership skills while building your resume with valuable experiences, letters of recommendation, and soft skills transferable to industry
- Deepen your connection to the UArizona campus community, connecting with students both inside and outside your specialty

- Participate in Optics Ambassador training
- Attend regular Recruitment Team meetings
- Commit to representing Wyant College at recruitment events on campus, online, and in the Tucson community
- Volunteer to represent Wyant College at conference expos and information sessions at alma maters
- Help develop content, like videos and FAQs for the program
- Provide Meinel building and lab tours on a regular basis and as needed
- Remain in good academic standing, professional, enthusiastic, and confidential
All Optics Ambassadors
- Must be a current, declared undergraduate or graduate student at the Wyant College of Optical Sciences
- Be punctual, reliable, organized, and enthusiastic
- Commit to serving at least two semesters
- Must complete the Ambassador application and interview per Team requirements
Graduate Recruitment Team
- M.S. students must have completed one year at OSC (the first year could have been as an undergrad)
- Ph.D. students must have completely passed the qualifying exam and have a confirmed faculty research advisor/Ph.D. Advisor
- Be in good academic standing (3.0 GPA or above)
Undergraduate Recruitment Team
- Undergraduate student must have successfully completed OPTI 201R/L or an equivalent transfer course (exceptions may be made for students with significant optics experience or knowledge)
- Graduate student must have completed the OSE major or minor at University of Arizona
- Be in good academic standing (2.75 GPA or above for undergraduates and 3.0 GPA or above for graduates)
