Katie Schwertz: The 2024 SPIE President’s Award

Katie Schwertz (OSC MS 2010) received the 2024 SPIE President’s Award for her outstanding service to the optics community. As Senior Manager of Optical Assemblies & Technology at Edmund Optics, Schwertz has led key advancements in optical systems design. Mary Turner: The 2024 SPIE María J. Yzuel Educator Award

Mary Turner (OSC MS 1990 and PhD 1993) was honored with the 2024 SPIE María J. Yzuel Educator Award. A Technical Fellow in Optical Design at Edmund Optics and adjunct professor at the college, Turner has dedicated her career to teaching optical design and mentoring thousands of students. Kyle J. Myers: The 2024 SPIE Harrison H. Barrett Award in Medical Imaging

Kyle Myers (OSC MS 1983 and PhD 1985) received the 2024 SPIE Harrison H. Barrett Award in Medical Imaging for her pioneering contributions to medical imaging and regulatory science. As former director of the FDA’s Division of Imaging, Diagnostics, and Software Reliability, Myers played a key role in translating advances in image science into regulatory practice, particularly through device-approval processes. Her continued leadership in medical imaging, even after retiring from the FDA, highlights her enduring impact on the field.
