Congratulations to Joshua Follansbee on his selection to receive the Dr. Jack Slater Award funded by the Joint Directed Energy Transition Office (JDETO). The $10,000 award is granted annually to the highest scoring student focusing their research on high energy lasers (HEL).

Joshua Follansbee's research is focused on comparing the performance of active imaging systems in the SWIR and eSWIR bands for HEL targeting applications. This work is rooted in both modeling and experiment, with Joshua performing radiometric trade studies of particular targeting scenarios, as well as building a portable active imaging testbed in order to perform long-range field testing of the systems of interest. For this work, he is advised by Prof. Ron Driggers. He plans to graduate with his PhD in May 2025.

As part of the award Joshua will have the opportunity to participate in the Student Workshop at the 2024 Annual Directed Energy (DE) Science & Technology Symposium in the spring. Congrats again, Joshua!
