WYANT COLLEGE TEAM WINS TLA SOFTWARE/APP CHALLENGE
Congratulations to a Wyant College team on winning one of five awards from the Tech Launch Arizona Software/App Challenge! The award aims to support the development of "software or mobile apps with the goal of bringing them to the public as impactful solutions to benefit society." Travis Sawyer, new optical sciences professor, and John Koshel, Professor and Undergraduate Associate Dean, worked with UArizona students Justina Bonaventura and Thomas Knapp, to propose the development of a software app and interface control for a new smartphone spectrometer for diagnosing and screening for melanoma. “What is needed,” the team wrote in their proposal, “is an inexpensive, handheld spectrometer with ease of calibration such that it can be used in any situation, including the field, medical labs, and by general consumers.” Congratulations, team!
