KIRA HART SHANKS RECIPIENT OF THE 2021 SPIE OPTICS AND PHOTONICS EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP

Congratulations to OSC Ph.D. student, Kira Hart Shanks, recipient of the 2021 SPIE Optics and Photonics Education Scholarship. SPIE stated in the press release, "In 2021, the Society is awarding $298,000 in education scholarships to 78 outstanding SPIE student members, based on their potential contribution to optics and photonics, or a related discipline." Kira is advised by Dr. Russell Chipman and Dr. Meredith Kupinski. Her research interests are focused on long wave infrared polarimetry and its applications to climate monitoring and weather forecasting. Kira is also an active member of the Women in Optics (WiO) club at the UArizona and has served as both president and recruitment chair. Congratulations, Kira! Read the SPIE press release.
