3-D imaging lab space containing a “mini cave” turns into dedicated large instrumentation room with 2 interferometers and a scatterometer.

Under the direction of Hillary Mathis, lab manager, the Wyant College of Optical Sciences teaching lab spaces have undergone a significant refresh and expansion, a great opportunity for enhancing hands-on learning opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students. With the addition of three new lab spaces, a space has been dedicated as the Senior Design Lab for undergraduates, giving students an exclusive area to focus on their senior capstone projects. Additionally, Professor Jose Sasian’s 597L graduate optics lab has been relocated from the first floor to the fourth floor. A new Instrumentation Lab has also been established, featuring two interferometers and a scatterometer, with room to accommodate additional equipment as needed.

These updates allow for better organization and efficiency across the college's teaching lab courses. Previously, some graduate lab classes had to share space, but now they each have their own dedicated rooms, ensuring greater accessibility and flexibility for students and instructors. In total, our teaching labs now include three undergraduate labs, one senior design lab, one instrumentation lab, and four graduate labs. We look forward to seeing students, teaching staff and faculty make full use of these upgraded spaces!
