Welcome, Gretchen
Wyant College of Optical Sciences is pleased to extend a warm welcome to Gretchen Wirges, who joins our college as the Distance Learning Program Coordinator. Gretchen, originally from New Jersey and raised in Rochester, NY, made Arizona her home in 2002, when she married her husband of 20 years. Her extensive career spans roles such as a training manager in the corporate sector as well as a five-year tenure as a training officer with the Arizona Department of Corrections.
In her new role, Gretchen is particularly excited about collaborating closely with the college's professors and students. Gretchen shared her aspirations for her new role saying, "I’d love to find new and exciting ways to serve our student community through engagement, educational opportunities, and multimedia!" Gretchen is taking on the role currently held by Cindy Robertson, who will be retiring in January 2024. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Cindy for her dedicated service to the college and for sharing her wealth of experience with Gretchen.
Gretchen is also deeply involved in the local Tucson theatre community, wearing many hats as an actor, director, costumer, and playwright. Her other passions include travel, photography, and caring for her lively pack of four adorable dogs.
If you'd like to extend a warm welcome to Gretchen, her office is located in Meinel 419. Feel free to drop by, shoot her an email at gwirges@optics.arizona.edu, or give her a call at 520-626-4719. Welcome, Gretchen!
