OPTI Classes to Check Out for Spring 2025!
OPTI 647B Photonic Quantum Information Processing | Prof. Daniel Soh
OPTI 647B Photonic Quantum Information Processing is being offered in Spring 2025 by Prof. Daniel Soh. Please note that the listed pre-requisites (OPTI 511R and 544) are NOT required. Students having difficulty registering for the course should email grad-advising@optics.arizona.edu to request registration.
Note that generally the course requires excellent knowledge of complex numbers, linear algebra, Fourier transforms, probability, and random processes. Prior background in quantum physics is very valuable but not required. If a student has not taken a undergraduate or graduate course in quantum physics, prior consultation with instructor recommended.

OPTI 596-006 Elements of Nonlinear Optics | Prof. Ewan Wright
Prof. Ewan Wright will teach OPTI 596-006 Elements of Nonlinear Optics during the Spring 2025 semester. This class has not been offered in more than ten years. The class is now available for registration. See below and the attached course syllabus and flyer for more information. If you have questions about the course, please contact Prof. Wright directly.
The course introduces the student to the basics of nonlinear optics and the zoology of phenomena produced by optical nonlinearities for very intense laser fields propagating in dielectric media. The treatment is centered on the classical Lorentz electron oscillator, but a quantum perspective is also given for many of the phenomena discussed. The class project requires students to have some computational skills. This class can serve as a companion class to OPTI 553 Nonlinear Photonics that provides a more detailed treatment of nonlinear optics, integrated optics, materials, and device applications.
