Associate Professor Euan McLeod was named in the Photonics100 List by Electro Optics, a company dedicated to providing uncompromised, informed commentary and analysis on topics of interest to the global photonics industry. "The Photonics100 celebrates the people who are pushing the photonics industry forward, whether as the inventors, manufacturers, or end users of technology."

McLeod and his research are featured on the Electro Optics Website:

Prof McLeod’s methods and approaches differ from traditional nanophotonics research, which primarily relies on lithographic and cleanroom processes. Instead, he heavily utilises colloidal nanomaterials suspended in water, where surface chemistry plays a key role.

The group’s 3D nanofabrication work uses optical tweezers rather than existing solutions such as lithography, laser direct writing or self assembly. Prof McLeod contends that optical tweezers offer the potential to integrate multiple materials in complex 3D geometries with smaller (sub-diffraction-limit) length scales than existing solutions. “We believe that our approach will allow us to fabricate nanophotonic materials and devices that cannot be made using current approaches,” he adds.

Congratulations, Euan!
