Alumnus, Logan Graves, Shares the Love for Optics Via "Spotlight Report" Podcast
Logan Graves, an alumnus of the Wyant College of Optical Sciences at the University of Arizona, earned both his BS in Spring 2014 and his PhD in Summer 2019 under the guidance of Daewook Kim, professor of optical sciences. Today, Graves works as an optical and software engineer with Arizona Optical Metrology, an Industrial Affiliates Leadership Partner of the college, but he also shares his passion for optical sciences and the culture surrounding it through his podcast, The Spotlight Report.
In The Spotlight Report, Logan explores the intersections of science, research, and the human stories that fuel groundbreaking discoveries. The podcast dives into complex scientific topics and sheds light on the emotional and personal lives of researchers, particularly students and faculty, revealing the passion that drives them. It's a unique opportunity to explore the lives behind the work of researchers.
Most recently, he interviewed Travis Sawyer, an assistant professor of optical sciences and fellow alumnus, whose work focuses on improving early cancer diagnosis through multimodal optical imaging. In this episode, Dr. Sawyer delves into cutting-edge techniques like OCT, two-photon imaging, and fluorescence, discussing their potential to revolutionize cancer diagnostics. Their conversation highlights the importance of merging these imaging technologies into compact forms for endoscopy and the future advancements in the field.
Reflecting on the impact of his podcast, Logan shares, “To expand on Dr. John Grievenkamp's axiom: you can never have too much light; I would add, you can never have too many people talking about light.”
Logan’s podcast is an enriching platform for both science enthusiasts and those curious about the personal journeys behind scientific breakthroughs. Check it out today! And don't miss the latest episode featuring Travis Sawyer.
