New photos and videos are now available for the Grand Challenges Research Building Construction updates page! Planning, Design & Construction has released two new versions of timelapses of the building's construction including a drone-flyover timelapse and a daily progress timelapse. Kitchell has also released an in-depth video of the construction of the new building.

Graduating students and their loved ones, along with Wyant College staff and faculty, gathered on Friday, Dec. 15 to celebrate the Wyant College of Optical Sciences' Winter Convocation. The intimate ceremony was followed by a light spread and cake in the Meinel 3rd floor lobby.

On December 7th outside of the Meinel building, the final staff recognition awards were presented after a fantastic meal during the Wyant College Staff Recognition and Holiday Luncheon. Additionally, the college was thrilled to welcome Las Aguilitas de Davis Mariachi and thanks them for attending and providing such lively and fun music for the event. Awards presented included the Honorable Mention, Rachel Lyman; and Employee of the Year, Chris McCormack-Obregon, as well as the 4th Quarter Peer-to-Peer award, Amee Hennig.

SOCk had a fantastic time playing Bubble SOCk-er to celebrate the end of the semester, as can be seen by the exciting photos! Check out SOCk's Instagram for more updates! Best of luck to all our students during finals, and have a great break. See you in January!

Everyone had a spooky good time at the Masquerade and Networking Event on October 31, 2023. Games were played, costumes were displayed, and snacks were had! Take a look at the activities and creativity in the album!

The Wyant College Industrial Affiliates Showcase and Meeting took place Oct. 23 - 25 in Tucson, AZ. The event kicked off with a packed poster session and corporate showcase in the Student Union. The second day was filled with student and faculty presentations that outlined current Wyant College research. On the final day student interviews took place as well as lab tours and a pizza party. 

Scholarship recipients and donors came together with Wyant College of Optical Sciences staff and faculty to celebrate the 2023 scholarship awards ceremony, which took place on Sept. 15, 2023.  Dr. Jack Jewell (OSC MS 1981 & PhD 1984) and donor to the Jack Jewell Extreme Optics Graduate Student Research Award and the Jack Lee Jewell Endowed Chair in Optical Sciences, was the program’s keynote speaker. Congratulations to all student awardees!

Welcome back, students! We're glad you're here. The Student Optics Club, SOCk, hosted an amazing (and delicious) BBQ thanks to the support of ASML. Students and college faculty and staff had the opportunity to mingle and enjoy the start of another school year. Welcome back and let's make it the best year yet!

Week one of the exciting Summer Engineering Academy began by featuring optical sciences and electrical & computer engineering. Wyant College was thrilled to host the SEA students June 21-22. Together, the students learned about the concepts of internal reflection as well as electrical engineering and soldering. With these skills, each student built from scratch their own infinity mirror and programmed an Arduino board to allow the LED lights inside to change color.

The Wyant College (previously, Optical Sciences Center "OSC") Annual Group photo has been a tradition going back to the first group photo in 1967. In this photo album, you'll find the photos taken throughout the years to capture the Optical Sciences family at the Wyant College.

The spring class of 2023 celebrated their graduation and induction into Wyant College's distinguished alumni ranks on May 11. A large congratulations to the graduating students, their families and instructors. High-resolution images are now available for download.

On Monday, May 1st, Wyant College of Optical Sciences and College of Engineering teams showcased their interdisciplinary final projects in a packed Student Union Memorial Center Ballroom, as well as beneath a large tent on the Mall. Students, faculty, staff and judges met the teams and learned about the industry-sponsored senior capstones in the most highly-anticipated event of the year for engineering and innovation. 

Laser Fun Day 2023 was a successful outreach event attracting over 300 visitors and was made possible by over 100 volunteers. The event was a fun-filled day of hands-on activities and demonstrations that showcased the amazing world of optics. Some demos that seemed to stand out were the AR sandbox and Laser Maze! With the help of dedicated volunteers, visitors of all ages had the opportunity to learn about the science behind optics, as well as explore its various applications!

It isn't often in Tucson, AZ we get to enjoy snowy weather! But sometimes we get lucky—and this time it happened in March! We will continue to add fun photos to this album as they are received. Another amazing Prism Week took place Feb. 6 - 10. The week-long diversity and inclusion event for the Optical Science & Engineering Community at the University of Arizona put on by the Women In Optics. During the week insightful and engaging events were held including allyship panels, a diversity town hall, a movie screening of "Picture a Scientist," and a special lunch & learn with guest speaker Anjani Polit.Many students, staff, and faculty supported the event to make it another success. Thank you to all for investing in the week to make it another success! And an extra thank you to all who attended as special guests of the week.

As the Superbowl approaches in Phoenix, AZ the Wyant College was invited to participate in a special VIP Media event hosted by UArizona.

Every year, the University of Arizona salutes a group of alumni for their achievements, public service, advocacy for education, volunteerism and service to students, the colleges and the university.

As part of the Optical Sciences Winter School 2023, at which more than 60 undergraduates from across the country and 20 optics professionals and faculty from other universities attended, Dr. Donna Strickland, Nobel Laureate, also joined us at Wyant College.
