Wyant College of Optical Sciences at the University of Arizona is proud to announce a faculty search for the Jack Lee Jewell Endowed Chair in Optical Sciences. Salary for this position is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Applications are invited from junior, mid-career, and senior candidates. Duties & Responsibilities |
This tenure/tenure-track position anticipates demonstrated strength in the area of optical engineering, including:
Preferred candidates will demonstrate a record of innovation and strength in areas such as optical design, engineering, instrumentation, and systems, with a broad variety of potential application areas, including interests in advanced optical technologies for space systems in astronomy and remote sensing. Applicants should ideally have a proven track record of teaching and research, including a clear potential to continue or establish a substantial research program in optical engineering that is capable of attracting program funding from industry and/or government. For private sector or government laboratory applicants, lack of a proven record could be remedied with other related credentials, including strong communications skills and leadership or experience in innovative optical engineering and/or building innovative optical hardware. The successful candidate is expected to establish a long term and successful career in optical engineering at the Wyant College of Optical Sciences. In addition to sustaining a research group, the position requires academic engagement with students and colleagues, and with the optics industry and government agencies. The University of Arizona is a vibrant and diverse academic environment with extensive inter departmental and cross college research projects. Faculty may have joint appointments and are expected to benefit and capitalize from these inter departmental collaborations, as well as from collaborations with other institutions.
